Objectives:

Identify the major similarities between the Japanese samurai and the European knight.
Characterize and describe the Japanese Zen Buddhism culture and its affect socially, economically, and politically.
Characterize the decline of the feudal system in Japan.

Review the history of the samurai.
Pass out graphic organizers.
Begin the movie “The Last Samurai” (edited)



Wednesday

Take out graphic organizers.
Continue the movie “The Last Samurai”





Thursday

Finish “The Last Samurai” and compare what was seen in the movie to the real events.



Friday

Final review for the final. Take out study guides for the final and work on them.
Go over any final concern for the final.

Materials: Transparencies, overheads, worksheets, Power Points, and computer

Objectives:

Evaluate factors that caused the rise of the samurai and explain the effect of the samurai on the Japanese government.
Evaluate the methods Japanese shoguns used to unite Japan.
Describe the conditions that led to the rise of the merchant class in Japan.
Characterize the political situation in Europe following the fall of the Roman Empire.
